CITRINE Citrine, also called Citrine Quartz is an amber-colored gemstone. It is a form of quartz with ferric iron impurities, and is rarely found naturally. Most commercial citrine gemstones are in fact artificially heated Amethyst or Smoky Quartz. Brazil is the leading producer of naturally mined citrine gems, with much of its production coming from the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Citrine gem stone has a hardness of 7 on the Moh scale. Citrine can be easily scratched. Citrine often permanently changes colour if left in the sunlight for several hours. Most Citrine on the market is heat treated amethyst. Citrine is found in Brazil, Madagascar, Spain, USA and the former USSR.
